As principal of Rotenberg Associates LLC, Amy provides strategic communications
counsel to clients facing adverse publicity in connection with federal and
state litigation, government investigations, product recalls, employee malfeasance,
media probes and other reputational crises. By working in close coordination
with her clients' attorneys, she specializes in helping clients who find themselves
at the intersection of legal claims, regulatory attacks and media scrutiny.
Amy was previously Vice President at Padilla Speer Beardsley, launching
and directing that firm's Litigation and Critical Issues Communications
practice. Following nine years of legal practice as a media lawyer and
trial attorney, Amy developed a unique expertise in crisis and litigation
communications. She was a trial lawyer at Dorsey & Whitney LLP in
Minneapolis, representing broadcast and print media in litigation, and
corporate clients in antitrust, employment discrimination, trade secret,
product liability and other complex commercial litigation. She also provided
daily pre-broadcast newsroom counseling to NBC affiliate KARE-TV (Minneapolis)
on libel, privacy and newsgathering issues. Prior to that, Amy was a
litigator at Cravath, Swaine & Moore in New York, representing Time
Warner and its affiliated companies in media litigation and cable television
regulation, among other clients.
Amy received her undergraduate degree from Harvard University, Magna
Cum Laude, in Government, and an M. Phil degree in International Relations
from Cambridge University in England. She received her law degree with
honors from the University of Minnesota Law School, served as
law clerk to Hon. Donald Lay, U.S. Court of Appeals, 8th Circuit, and
worked in the White House Office of Policy Development. Amy has served
on the Media Fair Response Committee of the Hennepin County Bar Association,
as well as the Minnesota Bar Association's Media Law Committee, and is
a member of the American Bar Association Communications Law Section and
Minnesota Women Lawyers. She was recently honored as a recipient of the
2003 Twin Cities Business Journal's "40 under 40" award.
In addition to her professional work, Amy co-chairs the recruiting efforts
of Harvard College in Minnesota and provides volunteer lobbying and media
relations counsel to several non-profit, political and religious organizations.
She is a retired competitive figure skater.
